As 2018 comes to an end, we are happy to report that we continue to have exceptional results in the clinical application of our signature Regenerative Medicine Treatments in the more than 8000 successful procedures carried out at Stem Cell Miami Institute.
In 2018, we saw increases in the number of autologous Stem Cell Procedures conducted, and of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) applications. We also added another weapon to our pain relief arsenal: Orthobiologics, an innovative procedure that does not require any blood extraction or sedation. These new and powerful placenta-derived products have proven extremely effective to control pain for many of our patients—regardless of their age. When used in conjunction with our Stem Cells from bone marrow, with Stem Cells from fat, or with any of our seven different PRP Treatments, these new biological products create a powerful “cocktail” that has improved overall results in the treatment of a wide range of medical conditions.
Consistent with previous years, the main conditions being treated at our Stem Cell Miami Institute continue to be arthritis-related, particularly knee, hip, spine and disc/cervical degeneration. We have also treated many cases involving ruptured tendons, peripheral neuropathy, COPD and other respiratory issues, erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence.
How did our patients fare? Almost 80% reported improvement in their condition after Stem Cell Transplants with no reported complications, rejections, contamination or infection in any of our treated patients. As to pain, 85% reported noticeable reductions. This is particularly striking when you consider that most of our patients had already exhausted all the traditional pain relief methods like taking multiple pain medications, physical therapy, blocks, etc.
Also this year, we implemented Hollywood’s newest craze, offering personalized IV treatments that are the latest and most effective way to defy aging and feel better, both physically and mentally. When we opened our Beverly Hills practice earlier this year, we found that athletes and celebrities were using these treatments for a variety of symptoms, including low energy levels, skin and hair conditions, depression or anxiety, poor exercise performance, etc.
Closer and dearer to my heart, we added new specialties and experts. We now have a neurosurgeon, an orthopedic surgeon, a pain management specialist, and a gynecologist, giving us greater depth and expertise in the most difficult procedures. To take advantage of our growing list of specialties, our physicians now meet weekly to review the most complex cases, giving patients the benefit of their combined intellect and skill.
So this was an exciting year. What is in store for 2019? In a field that is developing this rapidly, we are sure to see amazing treatments, products and procedures. For me, however, it will continue to be a struggle to communicate the benefits of Stem Cells and to convince patients to come in early in the development of their conditions instead of waiting until the damage is irreversible. Every week we see older patients who have been told they need surgery for deteriorated joints but because of age or medical conditions, would prefer a non-surgical solution. Some cases are so advanced and the bone-on-bone damage so great that even Stem Cells cannot offer more than temporary relief of the pain or a slight improvement in function, whereas earlier intervention could have resulted in greater benefit or even a total cure. So for me, better communication is my 2019 goal.
