Groundbreaking IV Therapy Now Available At Stem Cell Miami

A note from Ingrid Machado, CEO of Stem Cell Miami:

With this article, I’d like to introduce you to Robert Jacobson, M.D., who is part of our “team of experts” at Stem Cell Miami.  Dr. Jacobson is a neurosurgeon with more than thirty years of clinical experience, author of numerous professional articles, holder of multiple medical patents, former U.S. Army medical officer, and dedicated educator.  In this article, Dr. Jacobson discusses how IV Therapy is used by other physicians at Stem Cell Miami to treat a wide range of conditions and promote overall health.

In the last decade, life expectancy has been getting longer and people have become more active. As a result, people are focusing more on healthier living and prevention. So what can we do?  Clearly, exercise, healthy eating or taking vitamins have benefits but we can also have early and more advanced health problems because of heredity, poor health secondary to smoking or obesity or development of other medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, various autoimmune conditions and cancer. Patients are looking at options to maintain good health, correct disease in early stages or reverse underlying risk problems before they cause irreversible changes in their body. Many athletes and professional sports teams use IV Therapy to maintain peak performance. For the patient, using IV Therapy can be a part of this medical process to maintain and restore your health.

Symptoms of a Herniated Disc

Symptoms of a Herniated Disc

Dealing with a herniated disc is never a good time. The pain seems never to end. Many Americans face this problem every day, but do they truly understand exactly what is going on? What exactly are herniated discs? Our experts at Stem Cell Miami is here to explain what it entails, what the symptoms are, and way you can treat it with regenerative medicine.

Let’s Start With The Basics

Do you like jelly? Maybe you enjoy it inside of a sandwich or on a slice of toast. Well, your spine loves jelly too. In fact, it needs jelly! We are talking about the rubbery cushions between each individual bone that stacks to make your spine. This jelly is your disks. Your back needs them in order to function properly.

Think of your disk as jelly donuts. The outside of the soft jelly is protected with a tougher exterior donut. Sometimes when you drop the donut or squish it, the jelly pushes and oozes out of the sides of the donut where the little hole is that originally filled it. The same happens to your disks when they are slipped or ruptured. A herniated disc occurs when some of the softer “jelly” pushes out through a tear in the tougher exterior.

When this happens, the nerves around the bones become irritated. This is where the pain comes from. It also results in numbness or weakness of the arm or leg. Remember, your spine is the main roadway for your entire body. Depending on the location of the damage, any body part can be affected. There are some cases, however, where people may experience no symptoms form the disk. A good thing is that when this occurs, there is no need for surgery to fix the problem. There are many treatments out there to aid the situation, such as stem cell therapy.

Symptoms of Herniated Discs

As previously stated, the location of the disk determines what pain you will receive. Most of the herniated disc occurs in the lumbar spine. This is the lower back. However, they can also occur in your cervical spine. This is your spine. Here are the most common signs and symptoms:

  • Arm or leg pain.
    • If your herniated disc is in your lower back, you will typically feel most of the pain in your buttocks, thigh, and calf. This might even include part of the foot. If your herniated disc is in your neck, the pain will typically be most intense in the shoulder and arm. This pain may shoot into your arm or leg when you cough, sneeze, or move your spine into certain positions.

  • Numbness or tingling.
    • Individuals who have a herniated disc often experience numbness or tingling in the body part associated with the affected nerves.

  • Weakness.
    • Muscles served by the affected nerves tend to weaken. This may cause you to stumble. It could even impair your ability to hold or lift items.
