Recently, I was looking for the meaning of the concept of evolution and found the following definition: “A change or gradual transformation of something.” It is with great satisfaction that we have seen tremendous strides and evolution with our stem cell treatments in our StemCell Miami institute.

The first major evolution at StemCell Miami began almost 15 years ago, progressively implementing the first PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatments in our city in early 2004 to treat osteoarthritis in the joints, as well as conducting the first autologous adult stem cell transplants from bone marrow and also from cells derived from fat in 2007.

We could add to this extensive list, that our institute was a true pioneer (in the entire nation) at treating degeneration of the spine, specifically injured discs with autologous adult stem cells.

Ever since, many of our efforts have been targeted towards the elderly segment of the population, as we have validated in our own research studies that stem cell numbers and level of function progressively decline in numbers (and level of function) as we age.

Currently, we have added to our pain relief arsenal of tools the use of stem cells derived from umbilical cord and placenta, obtained from new born healthy babies. Our innovative procedure called: PLACENTEX offers the potential of substituting “old cells” for “brand new powerful ones”. It is important to highlight that we are one of the first stem cell institutes which offers this new ground-breaking technology for patients over 60 years of age.

We want to reiterate that these umbilical and placenta derived stem used in our new PLACENTEXX procedure, which we could technically transplant alone or in conjunction with your own stem cells based on age and level of injury ARE NOT EMBRYONIC OR FROM UNBORN FETUS. And important fact, that we want to make completely clear.

Take for example, the case of Maritza J, the wife of a neurosurgeon colleague that we decided to solely implant the PLACENTEXX cells (from umbilical cord & placenta), since she was showing signs of osteoarthritis related symptoms (detected via MRI) on her knees. On the other hand, a  78 year old patient (Julio C) showed significant injury on his hip, so we in turn implanted him with both types of stem cells (his own and also the PLACENTEXX cells). Two completely different cases (as you can clearly see) but both sharing one common goal, achieving a greater potential of regeneration and thus, a more complete and efficient solution for each particular problem.
