About two weeks ago, the IFATS (International Federation for Adipose Therapeutics and Science) congress concluded in Miami Beach, one of the most important conferences in relation to stem cells treatments derived from fat.
I want to first thank my friend and event promoter Dr. Ricardo L. Rodriguez, for not only inviting me to this great conference, but also because we have developed a very strong personal bond, mostly because we both share the strong vision that stem cells are and will be, the future of modern medicine.
Ricardo is a well-known doctor born in Puerto Rico and a graduate of Yale University, with over 20 years of experience in plastic surgery. In addition, he has dedicated himself in the last couple of years to arduously researching stem cells derived from fat, not only in their clinical application, but also to educate others on the many advancements made on this new realm of regenerative medicine.
Doctors and medical researchers from around the globe, including: France (where the 2019 IFATS congress will be held), Spain, Portugal, Canada, Japan, Korea (among many others) as well as from around the US, gathered at this important symposium to thoroughly discuss all the advancements made in this ground-breaking field and also the new FDA (Federal Food & Drug Administration) regulations. These regulations were recently established (pertaining to the field of Regenerative Medicine) by the FDA’s new director Dr. Scott Gottlieb, newly appointed by President Donald Trump.
Fortunately, Dr. Gottlieb’s opinions about Regenerative Medicine are extremely positive and he has reiterated that: “This is no longer considered science fiction” and also that: “Regenerative Medicine is one of the most promising fields in medicine today.”
We must clarify that these new FDA mandates were not put in place to interfere with the development of stem cell therapies, but rather are meant to stop many of these “medical impostors” from placing their patients at a dangerous health risk, mostly because of their unregulated misapplication and wrongful usage of these new cellular treatments. Furthermore, Dr. Gottlieb is in true favor of having medical institutes (like ours) to continue applying these innovative techniques, as long as they are applied properly and in a safe & regulated fashion, as we always do at our respected StemCell Miami Institute.
In other words, stem cells (and I strongly reiterate this fact to the many skeptical patients and even medical professionals that have probably not even taken the time to properly inform themselves prior to forming their “somewhat misinformed” opinions) are not only already properly recognized by medical institutions in the US, but are also fully acknowledged by the FDA, as a proper tool in the fight to improve overall health and in our particular case, as an invaluable ally to control orthopedic related pain in the spine, knees, hips, shoulder, rupture tendons and several other uncontrollable pain related conditions.
The main goal of the application of this new cellular technology (when it is applied in the proper / approved manner) is basically to avoid complex & dangerous surgeries, as well as making patients evade having to indefinitely rely on taking pain medications, that can often become highly addictive. This troublesome situation is a very serious and worrisome fact, which has catapulted into a “virtual epidemic” of prescription / overdose related deaths of epic proportion in our country.
